Brass Convergence II: Protest Brass, Free Concert
May 20th // 1-3pm
Yerba Buena Garden Festival, SF

The Brass Convergence is the long-time dream of Bandleader//Composer/Multi-instrumentalist Adam Theis that was first premiered in 2016 at YBGF.  This new project came about from his desire to bring together the staggering number of Brass Band musicians and related ensembles in a mini one-day Festival . Anchored by top Bay Area players from Theis' 17 year strong Jazz Mafia collective, this performance will feature numerous ensembles rooted in various styles of music that all heavily utilize horns and percussion. This year the focus is on the need for these types of acoustic, mobile and LOUD bands to take to the streets and help bring attention to important Social Issues of our time and help create a positive change. “Protest Brass”, a new suite co-composed by Theis and Bay Area composer Teddy Raven, will touch on numerous ways to utilize an eclectic “Brass Band” instrumentation along with use of chants, shouts, singing and crowd participation to create music that can bring people together or if needed, disrupt.

This event will culminate in the joining together of what is expected be one of the largest bands ever assembled onstage in the Bay Area.
