Mercury Soul returns to DNA Lounge for another show featuring DJs and live music. This event will feature Bay area Musician collective: Jazz Mafia, in addition to a jazz big band performing Stravinsky’s Ebony Concerto, Bernstein’s Prelude, Fugue, and Riffs; as well as additional works by American jazz greats including Duke Ellington and others. In the DJ booth will be DJ Masonic (Mason Bates) and Justin Reed spinning classic and contemporary, jazz inflected, downtempo and house music.  Our featured electronic artist is Bay area DJ Will Majid (of Balkan Bump fame) who will bring live trumpet improvisation to his DJ performance.

Cosa Nostra Strings @ SFJAZZ

Cosa Nostra Strings returns to SFJAZZ as part of their “Leading Women II Series”. These two special shows with be a presentation of their project Blowin’ in the Wind: Music of the 1960s. You will hear world premiere original compositions as well as some favorite covers, tracing the diverse range of music of the decade, from the rock of the British Invasion to the Bay Area’s folk movement, Motown, free jazz, contemporary classical music, and global trends from Latin America, Jamaica, and Cuba.
